Vendor Spotlight: Violets Are Blue

Courtney is the definition of ever-learning and always feels like there is more to discover!

Violets Are Blue is a floral design company based in Indianapolis, Indiana that specializes in almost any special event you can think of!  They’ve done weddings, bridal and baby showers, anniversary parties, corporate events, birthdays – you name it! Courtney Wiley is the vision behind Violets Are Blue and has been working with floral design since 2011. She still takes classes to keep learning things about floral design, and recently went to Dallas, Texas for it.  Over a decade later, Courtney still puts in the time and energy to continue to grow and evolve in her craft, and it definitely shows through her beautiful work!

When Courtney isn’t working on florals, you can find her spending time with her family, playing with her dogs, traveling, cooking, hiking, or planning how to re-decorate her house – hello Pinterest!  She also loves watching Purdue sports with her husband!  Fun fact: Courtney and her husband both went to Purdue University to get their undergraduate degrees and ended up getting married in the Purdue football stadium –  talk about a grand wedding!

After graduating from Purdue, Courtney attended Indiana University to get her Masters degree to be a therapist!  She worked as a counseling therapist for almost eight years before she went into floral design!  Another super fun fact: She took classes to start learning about floral design in Thailand!  Every time Courtney does something super cool, she just keeps topping it with something even cooler!

Courtney likes having more creative freedom when it comes to the florals because it allows her to use her creativity to build something unique and perfect for each couple.  She especially loves working with more colorful florals and different textures!   There are so many behind-the-scenes processes that happen from the beginning to the end of the floral design and most of it goes unseen.  There are many hours and a lot of attention to detail that Violets Are Blue puts into every single bouquet to make it as perfect as possible!  Speaking of bouquets, Courtney’s favorite part of the wedding day is handing the bride the bouquet and finally seeing all of the pieces come together.

One of Courtney’s favorite wedding moments is when she gets to go back to where her wedding was or the venue where her brother got married!  She explained how being able to work with those venues and getting to go back to the places where everyone was celebrating that joy just resurfaces special memories for her!  What a fun thing to be able to do all the time!

Violets Are Blue’s biggest piece of advice to couples that are planning their wedding is to have a rough idea of what they want in advance and to try to stay open-minded throughout the creative process.  Courtney recognizes that it can be challenging to know your way around florals, and she takes pride in helping her couples to be able to stay close to their budget, while making the flowers for their big day as perfect as they can be!
